How To Refresh your Frozen Sourdough Bread

Want to save sourdough bread for later? There’s no need to waste any crumbs because it’s very easy to freeze and revive your sourdough loaf or baguette.

Follow the instructions below and sink your teeth into that freshly baked magic, whenever the mood strikes!

How to Freeze your Bread

If you think you’re going to enjoy your frozen bread slice by slice, we would slice the whole loaf first. An optional step here is to place parchment paper in between the slices for easier separation. If you want to save a whole loaf to refresh for an occasion, like a dinner party, feel free to freeze it whole.

Place it in a sealable bag (Ziploc works fine!) and pop it in the freezer.

Refreshing Sliced Bread

Separate a slice from the frozen loaf and put it straight in the toaster or toaster oven to your desired doneness. You can also heat up a skillet on the stove, add a pat of butter or oil and toast up the frozen slice until golden brown, flipping after 2-3 minutes.

Refreshing a Whole Loaf
Let the loaf thaw on the counter. 12+ hours is ideal, but in a pinch even thawing the loaf for 2 hours will do the trick.

Preheat your oven to 375°F convection / 400°F coil. Quickly run the loaf of bread under some tap water - no need to soak it, you just want to dampen the crust. Place the loaf on a parchment-lined tray in the center of the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the crust is crispy.

The water helps rehydrate the crumb and creates steam in the oven to get you that “freshly baked” crispy crust. You will be amazed at the result! Once reheated, the loaf is best consumed the same or next day.
